The Haircut

I badgered Matt to cut my hair for a while. It had been 8 months since I had my hair cut and it was looking a little stringy. Matt insisted that, since we are in the big city, I should just get a professional haircut. But, after a month in said big city, I am feeling poverty stricken. After all, 1. It’s just hair 2. It will grow back 3. If its that bad, I can get it fixed. 4. It’s curly so it doesn’t have to be exact. 5. It doesn’t seem that hard. 6. Matt cuts the dog’s hair and he has never used his words to complain.
Hair Before
I instructed Matt to just cut three inches off each curl, and he did so, including the layers. At first, it looked exactly how you would think: terrible. However, after washing it, it looks OK, if seen from the side, under a hat, in dim lighting.

Hair After
Should you let your spouse cut your hair? No.
What is Matt’s interest in letting me cut his hair? Zero.
Relief level at knowing people are too preoccupied with themselves to notice my home hair cut? Enormous!

Would you let your spouse cut your hair? What’s the worst haircut experience you have ever had?

  1. A few years ago, I had really short hair and had a lot of bad haircuts along the way (think spiky and middle-aged wrapped into one). It's much easier now that I'm back to wearing it long (or was until I had 12 inches cut off) because, like you said, it's kind of hard to mess it up but I still won't let David cut it -- I'm sure he'd find a way.

    1. Shorter haircuts are much easier to mess up! If you have a bad haircut from a stranger, at least you don't have to see them again- but if it's your spouse and "the bad haircut" gets added to the list of grievances/ party stories, it could be the "gift" that keeps giving!

  2. I think he did a great job! I tried cutting my own hair last year using the ponytail method and made a mess of it. I might consider having Scott trim it at some point. He couldn't do a worse job than I did.

    1. I don't think I could cut my own hair. Id keep "fixing" it until I was bald!

  3. I think it is great that you let Matt cut your hair. Curly hair is very forgiving and it looks awesome, in the before and after photos! Yes, my husband cuts my hair all the time and does a relatively "straight" job. Bonus: I never cared much about how my hair looked, so everybody is happy and we save a bunch. That being said, once a year I go to a cheap hairdresser for $20 to get it short and layered again. :-)

    1. I think one professional hair cut a year supplemented by straightforward trims is a good solution!

  4. Yes. Because Matt is meticulous in all efforts! I think it looks beautiful. I know! Competitive haircutting for the bored sailor crew. When Hastings's elbow heals, hand him those clippers. Meantime, this is the ultimate sign of trust. My hubby colors my hair and I think that takes even more trust!

    1. Hastings's lack of opposable thumbs will really hamper his chance of success!
