2017 Cruising Plans

Sailing into 2017!
2016 was a big year for us. Our plan to leave our jobs and go sailing came together; I can hardly believe we actually did it! It has been one hell of a lark, Pip! What does 2017 hold in store for us? Great expectations, of course!

January: Fixing Hastings, Fixing Independence.
Hastings is still recovering from his surgery 5 weeks ago. After looking like grim death for 5 weeks, the site looked a lot better yesterday, and Hastings got up and begged for dinner for the first time since surgery. Maybe he was just waiting for 2016 to be over. Maybe he was just waiting for homemade garlic naan.

Next up - hauling Independence. It’s been ages since we’ve had to haul the boat, and we’re feeling a little too flush with cash, so let's fix that (in one of the most expensive places on the planet: Ft. Lauderdale) - and fix our leaking sail drive.

February through June: Bahamas, baby!

We’ll wait for good weather to cross the Gulf Stream, check in at Cat Cay, and hop over to the Berry Islands before heading to the Exumas. We’re also excited to check out some of the “Out Islands” before running away from Hurricane Season.

July through October
July should find us doing our biggest passage yet - Bahamas to Nova Scotia! I want to be cold and meet Anne of Green Gables. I think she could be a kindred spirit. Of course, I don’t want to be too cold so winter will find us somewhere tropical - TBD. What larks await!

  1. I'm so happy to hear Hastings is getting back to his old self. Your plans for 2017 sound exciting (except that hauling out bit to fix the leaking stern gland) -- I can hardly wait to see what comes next!

    Happy New Year,

    1. We're looking forward to lots of secluded anchorages this year. And we're looking forward to following your journey- hoping for a quick sale for you so you can start narrow boat shopping!

  2. Nova Scotia - how exciting! I can't wait to read your blog posts about Prince Edwards Island and Anne of Green Gable. It's on my bucket list. Garlic naan - yum. I can see why Hasting's appetite perked up at the smell of that. Hope our paths cross in the Bahamas.

  3. Good plan! Bahamas for the winter and Canada for the summer. I'd sign on for that! Good luck in the yard and give Hastings some extra naan, I mean cuddles.
